TIMBER FURNITURE

After my last post, I started researching timber furniture and the use of real materials in furniture design. I found a range of really interesting creations most inspired by introducing nature into a contemporary interior and the use of raw timber. Here are several photos of my favourites.

WOOD CAST FURNITURE

Hilla Shamia is a product designer who has created these beautiful wood cast pieces of furniture. The wood with its burnt edges gives a completely natural feel and contrasted with the attachment of the shiny metal supporting structure creates a unique contemporary aesthetic.

The wood trunks are cut and sanded to give a perfectly straight edge on all sides but when viewed from the end, the uneven curve and the inner gaps and random growth of the tree is evident.

SQUINT LTD

Squint Ltd is a company which sells the most stunning hand-crafted bespoke furniture designed by Louise Whatmough. The concept involves creating classically styled furniture and upholstering it in a patchwork fashion with a vast range of high-quality fabrics. Squint is all about maintaining a strong sense of British heritage within its creations and incorporating it into each design whilst flexibly catering for different lifestyles and cultures depending on its clients.  They sell globally in department stores but the only Squint Ltd store is located in Shoreditch, London.
